Sohl took possession of the guitar, which was payment for an unspecified debt, and painted it in December 1999, the same month George Harrison (who called a Gibson Les Paul given to him by Eric Clapton "Lucy") was stabbed inside his Friar Park estate by an intruder. Since then, the artist has made the instrument available for use, both in live performances and the studio, by legendary underground rock musicians of the eighties and nineties who were struggling financially, on the condition that they rehearse on it by playing a full 10-and-a-half-minute version of Television's "Marquee Moon." As a custom reproduction owned by a non-playing, cultural-marker-connecting artist, the piece is decoupled from its association with the Gibson Guitar Company to the point that one could as easily relate it to William Gibson or even Mel Gibson. Its semi-hollow design literalizes the notion of its own resonances.
